Looking for great campgrounds on our way to Mt. Rushmore

Hello everybody...Planning a trip this summer to Mt. Rushmore. We live in Tacoma Wa area and will travel east on I-90 with Mt. Rushmore as our final destination. There are so many cool things to see in the area and along the way - Little Big Horn, Badlands, etc. Any campground suggestions along the way and on the way back? We need family friendly places - 2 daughters (6 and 8) and our Goldendoodle! Thanks everyone for your help. By the way...we have a 27' TT.

  • Thanks everyone for your help. Made a reservation at Beaver Lake Campground!
  • Howdy!

We stayed at Hart Ranch RV Resort just outside of Rapid City for two weeks and took day trips to all the spots in the Black Hills. Nice Place and activities for everyone.

  • We stayed at Rafter J this past summer. Worth staying there just for the Park itself! It's only nine miles from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse and easy drives to Custer SP, Needles Highway, Badlands,Wall Drug. We also saw Devils Tower and visited Deadwood while staying there.
  • We absolutely loved Rafter J in Hill City. They have various levels of campsites. We had trouble with our truck and were delayed there longer than expected. They really worked with us. Also, there are several nice campgrounds within Custer State Park. Our favorite campgrounds in Custer are Game Lodge, Grace Coolidge and Stockage North.

We stayed at Badlands KOA when we were visiting the Badlands and Wall. If you want to be more in town, there are two RV parks in Wall - Arrow RV Park and Sleepy Hollow. Both are within walking distance to Wall Drug, but we liked Sleepy Hollow when we checked out both parks for future reference.
  • Beaver Lake Camp Ground RV park 4 miles west of Custer is a nice place. We stayed there 9 days and saw all the sights.
