Northern PA campgrounds

Just looking to see if anyone has gone to a good campground in northern PA. My family and I just went to Leonard Harrison and had a great time on the rail trail. This past weekend we were at Lake Glory in Elysburg, Knobles Amusement park. I like the northern campgrounds up in the mountains.
What PA campgrounds does everyone like?
  • Promised Land! We live a mere 40 minutes southeast in the Delaware State Forest and easily could spend a week there. Canoe, hike, fish, bike, hunt, kayak, nature watch, historical CCC activities, or just kick back with feet up around fire ring.
  • DH and I just came back from a weeklong trip in northern PA. We visited Ives Run COE near Tioga and Worlds End State Park in the Loyalsock State Forest.

Ives Run is great for boaters because the boating landing is immediately adjacent to the campground. The public beach area is a little walk from the campground, depending on which loop you're in. The lake itself is not particularly scenic (at least the part visible from the campground - it may be different if you're boating), but the surrounding area is lovely, and there are hiking trails accessible from the campground. As with most COEs, the grounds are spacious and well-maintained. And it seems very popular because of the several people I spoke to, they had all been camping there for years.

From there we went to Worlds End State Park in Forksville. The park is located along Loyalsock Creek which runs through the state forest. It's wild and beautiful there. The campground is surrounded by forest, and it's an easy walk across the road to Loyalsock Creek. There is a public swimming beach at the day use area. Lots of hiking trails through the forest, with gorgeous vistas at the top. But the campground is not suitable for big rigs. We have a small C (25 ft.) and had no problem, but I think a bigger C or an A would have some difficulty navigating the narrow campground road and backing in because of the trees. We did see a couple fifth-wheels, but it was primarily TT, PU and tents. They do have 50amp sites, so maybe an experienced A driver can squeeze in. DH said the bathhouse was great, looked like it had been recently renovated.
  • Check out pioneer campground in Laporte, Pa. Nice place with a nice pool. Also twin stream in nice in Morris , Pa. Not much to do there but close to the Pa. Grand Canyon.

    Twin streams

    Pioneer
  • I'll second Ricketts Glen. A walk along the waterfall trail (22 of them) in the Fall is beautiful.
  • Tionesta. or lake Conawasque above Mansfield, PA. COE parks.
  • Promised Land State Park. we love it, lots to do in the park, we could easily spend a week there. they have great ranger programs, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, multi-use trails.

Hickory Run State Park is also nice, though personally we prefer Promised Land, it is definitely worth checking out if you like exploring different places.

Otter Lake Camping Resort. private campground, lots to do in the campground.
