Roadtrip in the NE with Grandkids

Looking for ideas for a week long roadtrip with two of our Grandkids, ages 5 and 7 in the northeast (NJ, PA, NY, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH and ME). Last year we took them to Lake George and the year before to Moosehead and Bar Harbor. We seen most of NH since that's where we are all from. The 5 year old is a girl and the 7 year old is a boy. We are in a MH.

  • VT for that age: Shelburne Museum, VT Teddy Bear, Ben & Jerry's, Stowe Alpine slide.
  • My son was stationed at Groton, Ct. We LOVED Mystic Seaport! Unfortunately we were there during Hurricane Sandy lol..so they had to close early and we didn't get to see all of it. We want to go back there badly tho. Highly recommend it!

  • We have a 6 yr old and 2 yr old, live in North Jersey. Some suggestions from this area of the NE

Lancaster County, PA - large tourism area, Amish. several nice campgrounds
Jersey Shore - all the tourism areas are open. nice campgrounds in the Cape May area and Sea Isle City
Knoebels amusement park with campground in PA
Otter Lake Camping Resort, Pocono area of PA
Scranton, PA - Steamtown National Historic Site, Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour, Trolley Museum (shares the Steamtown parking lot)...trolley runs on Sunday (as of last year) to the Yankees Triple-A minor league baseball team
Ct - Mystic Seaport; Groton CT submarine museum. Checkout Strawberry Park Campground, it is central located to these places as well as Essex Steam Train, Newport, RI, and the CT and RI shoreline.
  • It doesn't seem to bother children that age to go back to a place they've enjoyed before. Ages 5 through 10, my granddaughters would ask for repeat trips, when we were suggesting someplace new.
  • I still have fond memories of a trip to Hershey PA and Hershey Park and Storybook Forest (kitschy) at around age 8-9 35 years ago with my grandparents.

Kudos to you and happy travels!
