san francisco camping

hello all, We're looking rving from Seattle area to San Francisco for next spring break. Does anyone have any suggestions for good rv sites/camping sites for San Francisco area. Something not to far driving distance so we can day trip or pop over to San Francisco for dinner. Something with some "green" area rather than just pavement or concrete. Must have a pool, games room is a bonus. Thanks for any suggestion!
  • OP, And anyone else traveling south on the Golden Gate bridge (north bound is free): There are no toll collectors on the bridge. See this thread to better understand how you will pay the toll.
  • Two years ago we drove the car through Candlestick Park. It did look clean and safe and there appeared to be long term rigs. However over the many years that we lived in the bay area there were continual reports of criminal activity in the surrounding area. Bullets, etc. don't respect park boundaries.
  • we stayed on the Coast Guard base in Petaluma on our way to San Francisco to visit our daughter. Beautiful area take a ride out to Point Reyes Light house Candlestick Park rV BY pass it. Very tight very expensive but in SF. They had shuttle service into the down town. Clean & safe considering the location. We stayed there because of closeness to daughters home. But would not stay again.

Great choice, Have fun. My choice too, we've been there many times. You can get fresh crab at Costco down the road, much less expensive than on the pier.
  • San Francisco Camping

Two choices: KOA in Petaluma or San Francisco RV Resort in Pacifica (expensive). These are the best closest choices. Call to see if still they offer transportation to SF. Treasure Island RV park in South San Francisco (not on Treasure Island) is a mobile home park that takes RV's. There are very few places that you might be able to park a rig in SF and I wouldn’t advise it for most rigs. For vans and TC’s parking at the Presideo, Crissy Field and Fisherman’s Wharf are possibilities.

I wouldn't consider Candlestick Park in Hunters Point because of the area.
  • We add another one to the KOA Petaluma. They may have a shuttle or something to San Francisco or take the ferry.

Petaluma KOA has what you describe. About 30 miles North of the city.
