- fla-gypsyExplorerI have done both and IMO Charleston is much more fun. James Island County Park (FHU) is a great CG in Charleston. In Savannah Ft McCallister State Park (W&E) is nice but the bugs will be horrendous in September.

Savannah has lots to do. Beautiful city. Lots of history. We took the evening ghost tour and it was great. Skidaway Island State Park is beautiful. (no cable TV and not satellite friendly if that's important to you).
Not many nice RV parks in the area unfortunately.
17 miles from Savannah is Fort McAllister State Park.
I've been to both and my pick would be Savannah. I agree with all of the above except that there are a couple of sites (ie: 42) where a dish will work..if you are patient, have lots of cable and are good at shooting through breaks in the trees.
Nothing bad about Ft McAllister either but you can't beat the convenience of Skidaway if your goal is to visit Savannah.
If you do choose Charleston instead it is nice too. James Island County Park is first rate and has shuttle ($) service into Charleston. - tvman44ExplorerBoth beautiful old cities with lots to see. We stayed at Fort McAllister State Park for a week and it was nice. :)
