@ what age do black/tan dogs begin to go gray?

Specifically interested re: dachshunds and min pins. We don't know exactly how old Darcy is but from earlier vet estimates, we're figuring she's about six going on seven. Just in the last few months she's developed a mostly gray muzzle and now she has gray edges to her "elbows" and some gray mingled in the black on her belly. It makes me sad to think she may be older than we thought. She has/had a gorgeous, sleek black coat. darn it. Thanks for any info.

  • Our dog is a Heinz 57 (he may have a little Mini Pin) he is black very little grey hair ........he will be 15 this summer. He is like the engerzier bunny no one can guess by his coat or his energy that he is old as he is but we have had him since he was a puppy. Our DIL's Dachshund is 15 this year as well he shows his age & does have more grey.
  • Fritz (wire hair dachshund) is 7 and is starting to gray around muzzle and on top of head.

Could be, there's a lot of that going on around here. :W Then again, I wondered if the lizards are getting even with her? :E

    Now that's just mean :)

I've seen many start the turn to gray around 6-7. It is so much more obvious in a black haired dog.
