We live on a lake, so fireworks are a problem for a week before and a few weeks after the 4th. Last year, Ben was just 10 weeks old, had quietly watched fireworks from our pontoon boat with us, and I thought we had another explosion-proof dog like Jimmy. And then 2 weeks later, some mental degenerate shot off a "mortar round" about 100' from our house JUST as we walked outside :-( Poor Ben was scared beyond words - screamed bloody murder. Yeah - it imprinted all right :-(
Fortunately, Ben isn't afraid of fireworks if he's in the house, so for several nights last week, he simply didn't go potty after dark. Last night it was raining and there was a fierce thunderstorm just north of us, so I took the dogs out for their pre-bedtime potty call. Ben stood and watched the lightning for probably 10 minutes, before he determined it was "just a thunderstorm" - and trotted off to do his thing....LOL!
I'm SOOOO thankful he can tell the difference. Of course having Jimmy remain totally calm no matter WHAT kind of noise is happening, helps too.
