Oh how awful. I am so very sorry to read this. I hope Ziggy learns his lesson and leaves the other little critters alone. It is hard to be where the dog is all the time. Is he aggressive with the other pets or laid back? Maybe he was jealous of Bonka? None the less very sad.
Ziggy has no idea what she did that was wrong, and unfortunately no way to understand that. She's not aggressive. She's just .... a dog. And to a typical dog, rabbits are prey. I think she went in there to try and look out the window at "Bugs" (the cottontail that lives in the front yard) and then realized that Bonka was a rabbit, too.
She's learning not to be so focused on little critters but it takes some effort. I think I'm going to work on getting her focused on something like a ball or toy and see if that helps her direct that drive in a safer direction. We'll see. For now, she's not alone in the house loose with the cats, just to be safe. There aren't any more rabbits, so I don't have that to worry about.
Still pretty hard to go in there in the mornings and not take a handful of veggies for the bunny.
