Andy - no surgery today - something else! - update pg 2

The pre surgery blood test showed abnormal liver and thyroid readings so my vet ordered a bile acid and T4 tests and wants to see what the readings are before Andy has the surgery to remove the mast cell tumor. That, however, seems to be getting smaller since he's been on Benadryl. Regarding the abnormal readings, Andy has been on thyroid extract since we got him due to a low thyroid. One of the liver readings - I think it was the alkaline phosphate - was over 1,000. The others were high too. My other sheltie Champ also had liver disease and was put on a special diet with milk thistle as a supplement and lived for about 4 years after the diagnosis. Andy is showing no signs of discomfort - he's eating well and is not fussy, and he still has that little spring in his step, he is not lethargic and his coat is beautiful. I am hoping this is something that can be treated with medication and diet and not anything drastic like a mass in the liver (I always think the worst). Dr. Doug, I was all prepared to deal with cancer, now this! I guess I'll be googling bile acid tests and liver disease in dogs. I just hope this will be manageable - I've only had Andy about 3 1/2 years!
