Anyone using methazolamide for glaucoma?

Sage needs a refill. Price of 50mg methazolamide tablets (100 count) was $165 - 6 months ago. This was a generic version at CVS. Called to check pricing.

CVS generic is now $270. I called Costco and it's $970 there.

Just wondering if it's like this everywhere or where others are getting it (at an affordable price).

I hate to change her meds, as this is working.

  • There is a shortage in mfg of this medication, so there is no availability generic, brand name or any other. There are only two companies making it and only one has projected a release date for a batch.

I'd check with your ophthalmologist and see if one of the other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors might be worth a try in a pinch (if you can't get the methazolamide), otherwise just bite the bullet because you are going to have to pay for this medication.
  • Whatever you do, if your current meds are working, don't change them. Sometimes, after being taken for awhile, glaucoma meds stop being effective for a patient. If that happens, then you have to change, but if it ain't broke...
Also, sometimes you can contact the drug manufacturer and they will get you a better deal. Good luck to you.

Do you know anyone that has horses? The SAME Identical dog meds bought from an equine clinic will cost you less than what you pay for human and/or dog meds'.

btw, beware of using generic for that drug.
