Barking dogs left alone all day

We've traveled all over this beautiful country with both dogs and cats..and it never ceases to amaze me that people will go off and leave their dogs all day in their travel vehicles. We're here in a park in Idaho and the poor little dog has been barking since about 6 this morning.....several people around that particular motorhome have been wondering why in the devil someone would do that to their dog, let alone to the people around them. The sad part is that when they do show up they don't believe you when you tell them the dog has been barking...after all he wasn't barking when you drove up! Please, fellow RVers, believe us when we tell you that "Precious" was barking....it's for the dogs good and makes for great neighbors when you do something about it.
We are now traveling with no animals. Our beloved kitty, Scratch, passed on April 29. Just shy of his 18th b-day. We miss him tho we do enjoy interacting with other peoples pets........
  • I think people with barking dogs don't hear them. When my father-in-law was dying the next door neighbor came over to visit him. He complained to the guy that his dogs barking next to his window was really annoying of which the guy replied "I don't hear them bark." Der!
  • I thought most campgrounds rules say you cannot leave animals unattended? If it were me I would go to the host or ranger and file a complaint. Barking dogs are a pet peev for me along with people driving fast through campgrounds...
  • We took ours once, honestly they did great but even the couple of barks at people walking by (especially at 5 am) made me cringe..They are happier at home, my dad feeds and waters them while we are gone, and I can enjoy camping with the kids.
  • On our last trip: There was a PUP with a screen room. No one was there and they had a dog that was chained to the steps. He got the chain wrapped around the corner post of the screen room. He wrapped it so tight that he had about an inch of chain and had to lay down, half in/half out of the bottom of the screen room. No water, hot day.
We had just pulled in, we heard him barking but were busy setting up. Mind you, there was a lot of people already there. Once we got the minimum set-up completed, I went to see what was up with this poor dog. Found him, untangled him, got him water, and put a BIG note duct taped to the windshield of the car. Duct tape on a windshield on a hot day might be a problem, but that poor dog had a bigger problem. They never left that dog alone, again while we there.
  • We camp in A-Bay in August every year and we have the SAME truck camper with the barking dog.....when you tell the people, it is always "not our dog" - last year I took a video (via my phone) and played it for them.....maybe someone should do that to the MH in Idaho!

    Good luck!
