Mark - what is special about the diet? The reason I ask: my sis-in-law has a 10 yr old Bichon who just was diagnosed as being diabetic, and they're having a hard time bringing his blood sugar under control. He was also on a dry food for the prevention of kidney stones, which had been a prior problem. He doesn't LIKE the food; up until now, if he didn't eat for a day or two, it was no big deal; but now he needs to eat twice a day. My sis-in-law is willing to cook for him, and her Vet is guiding her - and she figures the kidney stone problem is secondary to the diabetes - but is there something she could do or not do, to make him food he'll eat AND help avoid kidney stones?

Gyp's meds are mostly pills; some are chewable.

Her eyes don't seem to be moving as much now; her head tilt has not improved yet. Her attitude is good. She still isn't eating dog food much; she is eating hard boiled eggs.

Hope Gyp gets better and steadily improves. Praying for a good result.

Wow, it makes a stomach hurt to think of having all those meds at the same time. Hopefully, some of them were by injection? Does Gyp seem any better yet?

Poor Gyp. I hope she gets well.

We ended up taking Gyp to our vet Saturday morning. We think she is on a third round of vestibular or a relapse. Her head is tilted more than 45deg when you look at her straight on. Over night Friday she vomited her dinner and she had bloody diarrhea. She is now on prednisone, antibiotics, Valium, anti diarrheal meds, something to sooth her stomach, and then one dose of dewormer. We also got some canned food from the vet since she is on a restricted diet for bladder stones.

So sorry to hear about Graham. It certainly has been an eventful spring for you and Renee. Hope things are easier from here on out.

In our herding venue we place no restrictions on running females that are in heat; we expect the males to be focused on the work (and generally they are). There is no rule about setting the sheep (dog/handler team that holds the group of sheep at the other end of the field) with females in heat; people out of courtesy generally do not do it.

Some boys will be boys....... back in my horse showing days - there was NOTHING worse than a Stallion "talkin' to the girls" during a class. Either the girls were listening (not good) - or it freaked out the geldings like my wussy guy (not good) - or it made the other stallions crazy (REALLY not good). Granted, at any given horse show, there were going to be mares in heat - so expecting a stallion to "mind his P & Q's" is a pretty tall order (!) but the vast majority of them understood that the show was NOT where the fun stuff happened.

My wife prefers females due to how some males can be about lifting their leg on everything and wanting to mount everything. It's not so much about preferring working females vs. working males. Our first Border Collie was a male. One of my wife's first working dogs was a male; and I've had working males in the past. The sire ended up staying with us for 3-4 weeks and we REALLY like his personality (he was respectful of our other females; no means no as opposed to no means try harder). We do prefer to have only one functioning gender in our pack; it makes pack management much easier (we don't want accidental breedings).

This reminded me of my wife's dog Moss who was able to pee on my leg a couple of times because he lifted his leg before I could correct him.
