Black Spot on Abby's Tongue

Otis noticed a black spot on the back of Abby's tongue. He said "oh no, something is wrong!" (We went through a lot with Haylie's cancer (RIP) and worry about everything.) Went online and read that some Golden's have black spots on their tongues, like a beauty mark. Whew... I was worried too! (But I'm still gonna keep an eye on it.) Agnes

  • Jimmy (poodle/aussie mix) developed one on his tongue. it started out the size of a sesame seed, but when I saw that it was growing larger - I took him to my Vet who reassured me that it's nothing more than a pigment spot.
  • Very common. It's probably just a pigment spot, like a birth mark. See them in all breeds but very common in labs and goldens.

  • Yep, our 2 year old Golden has a black spot on the tip of her tongue and underneath as well. we saw it when she was a few months old, and thought she got into something....it's still kind of weird seeing it. It makes her extra special...
  • Yep, they get them. Probably fairly common. I've had several cockers who had a black spot on their tongue, and it never developed in to anything. The first one I saw, I thought the dog had gotten a pen and chewed it up.
