To open the trap, assuming it's a have a heart type model,tie string to center of trap. Have knot underneath trap, wrap around over the top of trap. Then, step back, pull string, and trap falls upside down, Voila, doors spring open.
That's how I trap skunks to relocate. They can't spray because their
tails can't be raised to spray.
Poor thing's just trying to survive. If you were caught in a trap and if your tail was scraggly and you were ugly on top of that, you'd hiss too!
