I use exercise pens rather than crates. They are normally constructed of 8 2' panels and I think you will find they conform better to oddly shaped spaces, folding back a sections on each other will create a smaller area. They won't have a "roof" but are available in various heights. If you have more than one, you can combine them for use outside to create a small exercise area. My dogs don't need crated after the brain fairy visits and teaches them their house manners.
