Cute dogs. My first dog was a full size Dachshund and the only time he left my side was when someone said food.

For most breeds the "blue" describes a steel-gray color--maybe the same for Dachshunds?

Congratulations on your two new pups! I DO remember of you losing your beloved Dachshund last year---she's probably looking over you and your two new pups right now!

Well I'm kind of color blind but I can tell you they are adorable. Someday for me again too. Have fun.

Your description of steel gray seems to be accurate.

They will grow up in five or six years. Doxies are a lot of fun but they are high energy and demanding of your attention.

I used to babysit a dachshund and, though I loved the little guy to death (and he me), I had to learn how to deal with his high energy and tendency to quickly get bored. Overall, he was a lot of fun!

Arent you the lucky couple. two lovely new friends! We also have two little friends here, One is Gracie and the other is Rockie. Gracie we found in a Walmart parking lot in West Plains Missouri. After a very painful loss of our last little friend, we had decided we couldn't go thru that again. then we made the grave error of holding a puppy, that was our Gracie. After holding her warm squirmy little body, we were in love. Then about 18 months ago a little male yorkie started showing up in our yard and even in our house. At first it took us a while to discover he wasn't our Gracie. Then after a while we could tell the difference quickly. He would run away from home and come right to our house. We always would love him up, make sure he had food if he wanted it, and then take him home. The lady who owned him finally just gave him to us. So now, like you, we have two of the sweetest little friends. aren't we both Lucky???

Yes that looks like blue & tan. Blue is actually a dilute form of black which is why it seems like a light black. Most people think of dachshunds as either red or black & tan, but they actually have quite a few different colors.

Reading your post about how you visit each morning and evening with Ouiser was especially touching. My loyal old tomcat who died a year and a half ago is my screen saver. I too wish him good morning and good night.

Never was attached to pets when growing up. Couldn't understand how people became so attached to them.Wife's cousin was raising Dachshunds and sometimes I think over bred them as Ousier, IMO, was large for a Dachshund. Anyhow after haggling back and forth I agreed but if she could not be house trained she would not stay. Brought her home and she slept in a kennel at night but being afraid she would waken the visitors she was moved to our room. That night she whimpered until she was moved to our bed. That became permanent. On my days off, and only on my days off, she would awaken me as if to say "Time to get up."

It soon became my chore to walk her outside. From that point she became mine.

For years after returning from Vietnam I had bouts of anger and rage. Ouiser taught me patience and was a comfort. I soon came to love her in a special way. She seemed to sense that I needed her close and was always with me. She would lay next to me in my recliner. When I would move a leg she would also move to always have full body contact.

My love for her was only exceeded by my love for the wife, children and grand children and when I think about it I sometimes think that it was equal. So thankful to have had those years with her.
