Dog guards dead body after Oklahoma tornado

Turns out it wasn't his owner but someone else.
...according to the the sheriff's office Facebook page, "Susie" actually belongs to tornado survivor Curtis Collins, who was immediately reunited with his loving pet.
The sheriff's department also said they had "no idea" why Susie would guard the dead body of a victim she had never met.

  • If Susie was traumatized enough - being near ANY human could have brought her comfort??

I've seen this sort of behaviour before first-hand, but with other animals, not humans.

I'd bet the body the dog was guarding was alive when the dog found them. It's instinctive behaviour to protect the vulnerable members of the pack. A domestic dog views humans as part of its 'pack'.

That was my first thought as well.

Are there any rv clubs or groups going out there to help? Perhaps already on site?
