- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIINot prejudice.......it's all about the Ins. Underwriters.
They look at statistics concerning 'loss' and write ins. policies accordingly. CG owner wants ins. coverage they have to abide by policy and the exclusions.
We traveled with a 68# dog......some cgs didn't allow us due to size/weight as they had 'exclusions' based on weight.
Exclusions aren't uncommon...number of vehicles, number of people per site etc.
Check out RV Park Reviews for CGs in the areas you are interested in staying and if they have restrictions. Lots of CGs don't......especially State CGs.
RV Park Reviews - PenManExplorerYou would probably get more responses in a different forum than Technical Support. Maybe try the RV Pet Stop forum or General forum with your question. In state campgrounds in New Mexico I have never seen any rules against specific breeds. Private campgrounds are more likely to ban breeds as Old-Biscuit said.
- PapPappyExplorerI don't know if they will or won't allow a GSD, but you may want to check with DogFriendly.com, to see what they offer for campgrounds.
As mentioned some places just have rules that they follow based on their own insurance. There is a super dog friendly CG here in NC (opposite side of the country) at FourPaws Kingdom CG. I would think that there are some others around the country.
As suggested, you might do better at National & State CGs, since they work by different rules.
Good luck. - Francesca_KnowlExplorerAs noted, usually only a problem in private campgrounds, not public ones.
As far as I know, neither Oregon or Washington State Parks have any breed-specific bans...and I think the same is true for Federal campgrounds, too. (Nat'l Parks, Nat'l Forest, COE, BLM, etc.) - sharibartlingExplorerThanks everyone. I did make an error posting in the wrong forum. Thought I had clicked beginners. Then got lost in the editing
- doxiemom11Explorer III haven't seen any breed restrictions in the National Forest Campgrounds either.
- sharibartlingExplorerThank you.
- skipncharExplorerFor the record I can remember only a very small number of campgrounds where there is ANY dog breeds banned. There are quite a few RV parks where their insurance policy requires them to ban some breeds (mostly due to irresponsible owners).
Good luck / Skip - Tin-benderExplorerWe have traveled and camped through California, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana over the last 3 years with our 70lb German Shepherd and our Border Collie. Staying at Rv parks and state campgrounds, never had an issue or question either a park accepts pets or they don't. Only breed restrictions I have ever seen posted were for Pit Bulls, Rotties, and Dobies.
We always check ahead just to make sure.
Tinbender - michigansandzilExplorerNever camped in Washington or Oregon, but I can say that several places have breed restrictions. We have a rottweiler and a mastiff and encounter some discrimination but I have been able to find a similar type campground close to the campground with restrictions so it's not too much of an issue. It just requires extra planning. I don't want to drive out of state and be turned away at the entrance. Typically I send an email and/or call direct to get confirmation that they will allow my breeds. State parks have been easier than private.
