Gonna change Jake's name to JERK LOL!- UPDATED
So about a week ago Jake decided he wasn't going to eat anything other than people food. He had an appointment for an ear check so I mentioned it to the vet. She checked him out and said she couldn't find anything other than some minor lip irritation and if it continued to let her know. By last Saturday nothing had changed so I got him in today for an appointment. He just had bloodwork done at the end of January and it was perfect. Had his teeth cleaned in February hooked up to a heart monitor. Perfect. She checked him over thoroughly. No masses, no pain, no nothing. It appears he's just a fussy old man. Normally I would just let him go hungry until he eats but since he's diabetic can't do that. She gave me an appetite enhancer that we've used in the past with success so hopefully that will put him back on track. A fussy old man she says. Nope, he's a jerk LOL!
As of today, 4/8, the "jerk" is starting to eat again. Sporadically but he'll eat some dog food now. Spoke to the vet as we are supposed to be going away in a week and I was concerned about boarding him if he'd only eat people food. The kennel is a part of the vet so they will feed him whatever I want and will also work on getting him to eat dog food. I'm starting to suspect his glucose may be off-his water intake is increasing some and he's had to go out a little more often. Mind you he doesn't go out much during the day so one or two more pee breaks is noticeable. Dogs can also get either the dawn phenomenon syndrome or the Symogi effect (which I have), both of which can make him feel like yuk in the morning. His sugar was a little high last week when he got his ears checked which could have been from him being agitated or he might need more insulin. The vet will also check on him while he's being boarded to get more insight.
