In my experience, being lightning-fast is the key. Otherwise it becomes a battle.

Wrap it in cheese...it'll go down quickly!

We use liquid ivermectin (sheep drench) as our heartworm preventative (with our Vet's knowledge). We dose our dogs by mixing the liquid in raw eggs or sour cream or drizzling it over their kibble.

We have a boxer that is prone to getting urinary tract infections. We give her "Doc Roy's Cranberry Extra" from Revival Animal Health, and have not had a UTI episode since starting her on that. It's a chewable tablet that she readily accepts as a treat.

The best part is, the tablets are relatively inexpensive.

The above while holding her mouth closed with the other hand. Also tilting the mouth up. Squirt slowly.

We have some, pill pockets, for want of a better description, from Pet Smart. He spat them out once in a while too. I just put it in his mouth and hold it closed and rub his throat. he has to swallow.
he could bit your arm off if it was his disposition but not too much force to open it.

We had some cheese bread from Walmart. We put the liquid on a small piece, and my dog ate it. You might need a few pieces.

Just down loaded a app on my I-pad for dog emergencies . Red Cross for dogs . This a App. will help you with dog issues. We lost our dog a couple of years ago and now we just watch the granddogs when the kids go on vacation. I use to give our Jack Russell two shots a day plus pills. I know what your going through. I always gave her a treat( lunch meat) after the meds and after awhile she was ready to take the meds with out all the frustrations .

That is the correct way to give liquid medicine. Squirt into the cheek pouch, not directly into the mouth.

If the dog resists, I'd try squirting the medicine on bread or using a syringe to inject it into a marshmallow.

Facing toward the dog, open their mouth with thumb behind the 'top' canine tooth and the top of your hand on the top of the nose and open.

For real problem dogs or owners who have a problem I recommend making a big batch of any cheap ground beef formed into real tiny meatballs fried in a pan. Throw in fridge and when med time comes around take a syringe and inject meds into one of the meatballs and stand back as they chow it down!

And for the dog that can find a pill in a mountain of food?
Crush pill, put in syringe, add a tiny bit of water and shake. Then syringe that into meatball or down throat.
