Spotacus has no idea what's going to happen in the morning. He's headed for the kitty hoosegow. We're driving to Fort Rucker, Alabama, to attend Nephew's commissioning as a Warrant Officer 1. He will then enter into Army flight training. Because his mom can't get off work to attend, he asked us to come and pin on his bars. The house sitter this time doesn't know how to take care of a cat, so boarding with Spotacus' vet is required. Poor guy.
Meanwhile, back on the ol' homestead, it's looking bare around here, now that all the RVs are elsewhere, and Tall and Short Friends' vehicles are no longer parked in the drive. Gave WLToo an idea for a hobby building. I hope we can get that built in a reasonable timeframe; I'm really sick and tired of having to work in the office around all his model train stuff that has to stay in a climate controlled environment. But first we have to rebuild the pool deck. Sigh.
The butterflies are migrating, so it's quite spectacular around here. With all our late summer/early fall wildflowers in full bloom, they have plenty to eat. We hope they'll still be plentiful when we get back, so we can take a photo of one of us in the midst of all the butterflies. Been trying for years, and haven't succeeded yet.
Three very nice looking bucks are wandering in and out of the place. Rut won't be in full swing until later in October, then hunting season begins (and all the poachers start shooting in non-hunting areas -- like around us). Hopefully, these bucks will leave some offspring. I really miss the days from just a couple years ago, when we had an entire herd of bucks, before the poachers shot just about all of them. They were beautiful to watch and never bothered us, just checked out the grass around the house twice a day. Now we're lucky to see the doe herd of only eight.
Still have at least two hummingbirds here, so we keep the feeder filled. Not sure when they'll leave, but since it's been raining so much, we do have mosquitoes for them to eat. A male cardinal stopped off yesterday. WLToo got a photo, but it's too hard to see.
Time to refill the hummingbird feeder, then hit the hay. Tomorrow's a long day.
Later, y'all.
