Seems the kittens have some separation anxiety. When we're outside, they run from window to window, keeping an eye out for us. When I walk up to a door, one or both are right there, calling to me. As soon as I come inside, everything's back to normal. WLToo says when I leave the property, they look anxiously out a window until my pickup's out of sight, then go hide. They have a sixth sense of when I'm coming home, and come out just in time to be at the door.
Since Rudy seems to like hiding, I found an old cat bed that's like a cave, cleaned it up, deodorized it, and today put it on the floor for them to explore. Czarny is too big for it. Each time he tried to get fully inside, he tipped it over. Rudy is still in the sniffing it stage, so I don't know if he'll ever decide to use it or not. But we have enough cat beds that I can put one in every room, and switch them around often enough to determine what beds they prefer. Those will be the ones we take on RV trips.
Rudy's still not letting WLToo touch him, although he's now having long conversations with WLToo, and occasionally rubbing against WLToo's legs. Someday he'll finally decide WLToo's safe enough to lay on him during the day, not just at night when WLToo is asleep...
