Yes, it was a stroke. He's been in intensive care since Christmas Day. We spent a few nights with him, to spell Short Friend, before his family arrived en masse. Things have been stabilizing, though, so he should go into a rehab facility near us in the not too distant future.
Until then, though, we'll still be spelling SF. His family leaves tomorrow.
He's already taking a few steps with a walker and his slurred speech has improved. Has short term memory loss, but hasn't lost his sense of humor, so he's keeping his nurse laughing.
Sister offered to let SF stay with her, since she's just a short drive from the hospital. We'll maintain their house here, and Sister is sending Nephew Two and dog to stay with us, so SF doesn't have to deal with Yoda acting out again. She'll also tell SF the stuff she'll need to know as a caregiver. I know from personal experience how overwhelmed she'll feel at times, so we'll be here to spell her.
Meanwhile, Czarny and Rudy have not been terribly upset at us leaving them inside all day. They've decided the cool weather is not much fun, so they'd really rather be inside. Their new game is to try to crawl under the extra blanket on WLToo's side of the bed. It frequently winds up on the floor. At that point, they just crawl under the sheet and bedspread and sleep away the day.
I'm very glad Rudy is sticking close to home. I guess after being skunked, he's figured out that outside is not the wonderful playground he originally thought.
I see it's way past dinnertime, but I did want to update y'all. Later.
