Today has been quite the adventure. It began with a thunderstorm and a bit of rain. The rain got heavier and heavier and heavier, to the point that it was creating its own wind. By the time it finally passed by, our little hillside had gotten 9.18" in about five hours. Oh, yeah, there was also a tornado warning, but south of us.
In the middle of all that rain, Rudy was trying to pee in inappropriate places, so he needed to go to the vet. And Mom needed to go to her oncologist for a followup. WLToo and I wrestled Rudy into a carrier and got him loaded into the F-350, then we carried Mom through the flooded driveway to my F-150 (WLToo and I made good use of the wellies we bought for the 2018 Alaska trip). On the way, our neighbor's catch pond was full and starting to spill out, which would flood our driveway. Our street was flooded, thanks to the Independent Living apartment under construction. Their piles of dirt and stone washed out over the street in mini-rivers. When we got to the fire department, I could see the intersection to the Farm to Market road was flooded. Okay, nobody's going anywhere. Turned around and came home, intercepting a number of drivers, including WLToo and Rudy, along the way.
About an hour later, it cleared and the waters washed on downstream. Mom's appointment got rescheduled without penalty. WLToo got Rudy to the vet, and he has a bladder infection. Got a shot, and we'll have to get liquid antibiotic down him for a while, and feed him some special food (now that's going to be interesting). At the moment, he's hiding under the bed.
WLToo said the main intersection in the village had been so flooded that the grocery store flooded. The folks who bring in the big dryers to dry out flooded buildings were already getting set up when he brought Rudy home. It's quite a mess out there, and now there's more rain forecast.
On the up side, I know where the roof leaks. On the down side, I know where the roof leaks. At least it's out in the separate garage...
I hear thunder, so it's inbound again. I think I'll put my wellies back on... Later, y'all.
