So yesterday we got a total of 10" right here. The village to the west got nearly 14" and the village to the east got nearly 13", so several areas did flood, including a grocery store. Because all the heavy rains were below the dam, the lake only rose a little bit. It's still 2.24' below full. And there's heavy rain forecast for this weekend. Sigh.
Rudy got his first dose of liquid antibiotic this morning, followed immediately by treats and half a can of the special cat food. He licked up all the gravy and ate a little food. I noticed the bowl is empty now, but have no idea which cat ate it. The real test will be this evening, when Rudy gets his second antibiotic dose. WLToo managed to hold him without too much physical damage this morning, but I doubt next time will be so easy.
The sun has finally come out and things are drying off nicely, but the humidity is noticeable. WLToo saw Leoghaire this morning, still very pregnant.
Czarny made it outside for about two hours, without being swooped. But he was happy to come inside, and is sleeping on the cat tree, right where he can watch the barn swallows sit on the porch ceiling fan blades.
Yesterday, after the storms finally left, it got very still outside. One of the barn swallows landed on a ceiling fan blade, and was very confused. The fan wasn't slowly turning in a faint breeze, as it had been doing ever since the birds discovered it. The bird seemed to be trying to get the fan blade to move -- pretty funny to watch. And just now, I saw a repeat.
Just saw a wasp. If it's a yellow jacket, we have to kill the whole nest immediately, as Mom is allergic. If it's a red wasp, it can stay. They are not aggressive, and eat other bugs (and scorpions). If it's a mud dauber, it can stay -- also not aggressive (not sure what they eat, though). So we'll go out and make sure, then make extermination plans for after dark, if it's yellow jackets. We want to kill them all, so we spray the nest at night, when they've all landed.
Later, y'all.
