Yes. Definitely supplement the deer forage. I'm sorry to hear about their struggles.
We had a cat like that once. He had bonded so completely to us, he would panic if we had to go somewhere for the day. He would bury himself in the bed to remain close to our smell while we were gone. When we came home we would find him IN the bed, not on it. He would get between the spread and the sheets. Funny how some are like that.
