As one who has owned hunting dogs for 30 years I feel your pain. The best solution is a fence, even if it's just a section of your yard. Our kennel isn't attached to the house so there are times when I have to take the dogs out on a leash. This is particularly hard in the winter when the deck stairs are icy but it's the only safe solution. I'm not a fan of perimeter training, invisible fencing or training collars-they may keep your dog in but they don't keep the other animals out.
