Mike summed it up pretty well. I think the issue of corporate ownership has advanced during the last several years. The costs to set up and operate a practice are staggering but even worse is the student debt.
I wish I had an answer, but I don't see an easy solution. The only observation I can offer is that almost every vet I know or have met through the years, got into the profession because of the love of animals. That hasn't changed and there are still good vets and situations out there.
