So, if I read and understood correctly, Nell's problems on the field were not the result of her Addisons, it was just a bad run? I guess if something has to be "bad" on the weekend, I'd take that one by a mile!
Mid 80's isn't hot by our standards, but I'm sure you were dealing with a lot of humidity, when makes things more miserable in general.
That said, we have had a much more humid that usual summer. No, thanks! The last time I took Buddy herding, it was about 87 degrees, and very humid. We decided that with the heat and all, some pen and sorting work would be a good use of our time. Imagine my delight when Buddy, who is often very pushy with sheep and has been described by more than one judge as an "obsessive header" or "control freak" did a textbook take pen. Calmly goes in the pen, stays on the fence edge, and everyone exits in a calm and orderly fashion. Then, as Buddy is leaving the gate, he notices that the sheep had shade and water in the corner. That's it. He clocked out, went to the trough for a drink, and laid down in the shade. When the sheep started to drift back into the pen, he got up, pushed them out, and went back to his shade. I don't normally let dogs dictate when they want to stop working, but due to the heat I figured he needed to stop. So he had to sit in a crate and watch baby sister work, perhaps the worst punishment of all!
Glad Nell held up OK this weekend, and here's to hoping she gets back into the swing of things working again!
