Keep water readily available, bring towels for the dog, POOP BAGS, maybe a small first aid kit ( I have a suture kit, antibiotic, cornstarch to help with blood clotting, benedryl, any meds the dog may be on, flea/tick repellent, tweezers... Etc). Being crate trained is a huge plus! Bring spare collars (harness) ID tag, leashes, some sort of tether. Always keep your dog on leash, pick up after it, and obey the rules. I like to bring some dog shampoo because my boys will roll in anything that stinks. What I bring may sound a little excessive, but dogs are unpredictable, and there's no saying what kinda shenanigans they might get into. A harness is a great idea for your guy especially if an off leash dog were to run up, you could scoop him up quick!
And last and most importantly ENJOY having your little buddy with you! Bringing dogs with you may seem like a hassle, but to me the enjoyment we get out of being out is more than worth it.
