OK - I just have to ask this: why do we need "dog treats"?????? They're dogs. They think all kinds of critter-turds are delicious. They eat grass and baby barf. They generally think ALL human food is divine. I've not found a dog yet, who won't walk through the Gates of Hades for a Nacho Cheese Dorito or a bit of String Cheese or one Honey Nut Cheerio. Are those things "healthy" - of course not. But they're NOT made in other countries or have ingredients from other countries. And one teeny piece as a "treat" is not going to hurt most dogs.
Do we know where the sugar, nut flavouring, honey or grains in the cereal come from? Do we know where the food colouring and added ingredients come from in Dorito's?
I think the point being made is that we really do not know where the contents come from and what is in those contents of a lot of products out there. This topic....dog food.
I worked at a company and we made animal health products. A lot of ingredients came from overseas, mainly china. Some of those ingredients we used, we did not know what was in them and paperwork gave only the name of the final ingredient, telling nothing of its composition.
We grow strawberries and other fruits in North America but I remember watching a show on food content and they stated that the majority of dried fruits in products, come from China.
I wonder just how hard it would be to actually track down where each ingredient and the products in those ingredients come from, that make up something that we think is totally North American
