Question re: Seasonal Camping with Pets

My husband and I are considering seasonal camping with our children and 2 Labradors. But I've noticed most places say must not leave pet unattended, even in the unit. I'm just wondering how this works if you choose to go sightseeing or even out to dinner.

Any insight would be great!

Thanks

  • The rules are in place so other guests don't have to listen to your dogs howling, scratching at the windows, etc. It is also for the safety of your dogs, in event of fire, power outage,(no AC), or hurting themselves trying to get out. Many people think their dogs are quiet and well-behaved when left alone-it's not always the case.
You have to decide if you want to follow the rules, or go sightseeing.
  • I am not a me generation, I am a baby boomer too. I agree with the other two posts, if your dogs are quiet and they are use to be left along on occasions there is nothing wrong with it. We too leave the TV on and sometimes the a/c fan on manual so the compressor is the only thing that cycles on and off. Granted we don't go out over four hours not because of a surprise may be waiting for us but four hours is long enough for us.

A lot of times we let our neighbors know we are gone and they keep an ear out for us.

I think you will be fine unless your dogs are barkers anyway and not use to be home alone.
  • If your dogs are quiet, who even knows they are there? Our two dogs are used to being left, so it's just another day of camping to them, I figure that rule is for the dogs that bark and howl the whole time they're left alone.
  • The young "me generation" has a real long row to hoe.
  • Contact the campground and ask management if seasonal campers have different rules. In some campgrounds they do. Otherwise, I'd look for local doggie day care recommendations-or a different campground.

I leave my pets unattended at those kinds of RV parks all the time. The rule " must not leave pet unattended, even in the unit" is a crummy rule

Is there any reason you are "special" and don't have to abide by the rules? Are you royalty or something? I think not allowing dogs on the beaches up here during the summer is a crummy rule, too, but I abide by it. You are why many campgrounds don't allow dogs at all.
  • I leave my pets unattended at those kinds of RV parks all the time. The rule " must not leave pet unattended, even in the unit" is a crummy rule I leave them in their anyway keep all the shades/blinds closed so they have nothing to bark at (people, cats, birds etc.) and keep the TV or radio on to keep them calm and relaxed. Dont be gone for more than 4 hrs at a time if you do, you might find a unpleasant surprise upon your return.
