xteacher - thank you for the information. I'm going to talk to my vet at Maggie's next visit.
Don't be surprised if your vet isn't thrilled with this request. Mine actually told me that she didn't think the Meloxicam would work as well as Metacam, but it does, in my experience. I think she was more concerned about the loss of her very high mark up/profit on Metacam... I paid $110 for a large bottle of that stuff!!
I had to be insistent and request the prescription for Meloxicam a couple of times during the visit. When I went to the front desk to pay, the prescription still wasn't there, so I withheld payment until I got it. It was sent up to the front shortly...
Thanks for the feedback xteacher. Hopefully I won't have that issue with my vet. My Maggie recently went through Auto Immune Hemolyptic Anemia, which can be fatal. She recovered and part of her drug therapy was Melatonin that he told me to pick up at any drug store. Fortunately, I too have paid that price for the large bottle of Metacam but it's not much difference in price online, where you still have to have a prescription. When I told them I needed a prescription because I could get it cheaper, he asked me the site and sold it to me at that price.
