"Shiba Inu" Mika's agility training

Thought i'd brighten thing up here a little bit...
i'm working on getting all Mika's agility training videos on youtube.

She currently has finished 4 classes starting her 5th next week

Here is Agility 1 training. It's about 15 minutes, but is't pretty neat how much a dog can learn with 6 hours of training

  • Looking pretty good for a Shiba. LOL
We have a twin to yours and is a hard dog to train other than for its own good reasoning or Yugi's benefit. Sister is a black lab and sure shows the difference in training. Shiba is just too smart for their own good. They sure like their treats and will do almost anything if it is their fav. Good luck.

Your dog is doing very well! Congratulations!

However, I have some serious safety concerns about how the class is conducted, though. Dragging leashes through obstacles (especially tunnels and chutes) is a major no-no, as the dog can easily become tangled. Same with allowing dogs on the equipment with tags hanging from their collars. It can lead to serious injury in the blink of an eye.
I also am not comfortable with the Shiba and the corgi jumping a 12 inch jump in an Agility 1 class. The dogs are also too close together to be safe. I don't even allow the dogs in the Basic Obedience classes I teach to work that close together in the first few weeks, and that is without the excitement factor of the agility equipment.

I would urge you to seek out a trainer in your area who places a high priority on safety and foundational skills such as conditioned jumping, stride regulation, and flatwork for the handler. Your dog seems to have quite a bit of aptitude for the sport.

Thanks for being honest about your feelings and knowledge. I can see where your concerns are VERY valid. Luckily, no dogs have had any issues with each other or leashes getting caught on equipment in the 4 classes we have taken. More videos to come soon
  • Agility was the most fun I have ever had with my dogs! Good luck - your little food-motivated shiba makes training look easy!
