We used to have 13 in the house. Let's just say we never went no where!! Eventually we got down to 4, and we bought our MH. The night we brought the MH home, we ended up being down to 3. At midnight, I ended up taking one to the ER Vet and we lost her.
When we started going away in our MH, we had three, which was okay at most parks. Then they started making a 2 dog limit or charging an extra fee per dog. We just went where we could stay with 3, as the one was almost 17.
We are now down to 2. A lot easier getting them out to potty in the am when camping.
They are almost 9 and 14. When we lose the oldest one, I don't know what we will do. I don't know how the 9 y/o will do as an only dog, as he has been with other dogs his entire life. But expenses will def play a role in that decision.
As far as adding.... things to consider -- more and more parks are putting a 2 dog limit lately, from what I've seen.
The cost of quality dog food is getting astronomical... more and more $$ for less and less pounds.
The cost of vet care is also getting out of hand. I realize vets have to make a living, but ppl have to have a roof over their heads, food, heat, and medical care themselves.
Adding dogs is a personal preference thing, but it's getting more and more difficult to provide top notch care for them unless you have plenty of $$$.
Good luck with your decision.
