Stomach/Intestines rumbling.???

The Pit & the Rottie suffer from some kind of intestine problem. The Shepard mix has no problem.. Same food.. The Pit had all kind of tests including a $400.00 sonogram. I'm not trying to save a buck. I've fed them Blue Buffalo, Taste of Wild, Vet recommended Dick Van Patton Limited Ingredient food, etc. No change. I've cut out chicken, grain as corn & wheat, cream filled cookies, etc.. Treats are home made sausage of beef/turkey/pork with rice and oat flour as filler in natural gut casings. No Chinese junk.. When they get the attack, not at the same time they won't eat. I've seen them eat a grass that grows bush like in the yard. Sometimes a Gas-X will bring them around to eat. I give the Pit Bull a Sam-i and a theophylline pill 1/2 in the morning and one at night for his "Old Dog Breathing.. Works great...The Rottie, Lady, gets 1&1/2 Novox pill for arthritis with two Tramadol pills twice a day. She's had the rumbling before this medication. Here's my problem.. I think the Vet, in my opinion, the best in Mesa, AZ, has run out of ideas. The sonogram was about it.. Only the Pit Bull & Rottweiler have the rumbling problem. They eat when the symptoms pass. One other mention, the Shepard has to have additional shakes of parmesan Cheese sprinkled on his food as he eats. Others get the initial sprinkle.. I want one thing to get straight, here & now, these dogs are not spoiled..;) :R . So, I've gone the diet route, I've gone the Vet route, Hopefully you folks have had the same problem and can advise... Thanks to all...Banging my head against the wall doesn't help either.. :)

  • I've had patients with similar symptoms, really frustrating as you can't pinpoint a cause. With all the dietary trials you have done, IMO it's unlikely to be dietary related.

When you have ruled out most of the bad stuff and all else fails and you still get symptoms resulting in partial anorexia I've tried a daily pepcid with good results. Something to try.

  • Do they have other symptoms like loose stools?

If not, I've come to the conclusion that some dogs just have loud stomachs? My late Aussie would sound like a catfight if he was hungry, and he wouldn't eat because "his tummy was upset" (smack forehead) it would even wake me at night.

I'd offer him something really yummy that he'd eat in spite of his woes, and miraculously, he'd recover......
  • I would try giving them green beans (good source of fiber) along with the dry food. Canned beans are fine. You could also try sweet potatoes. Go grain-free, no rice and no oat flour. There is arsenic in rice. No treats until you can determine the source.
