suggetions for care of diabetic dog?

Need suggetions for care of diabetic dog.
Our 8 yr Dobie, Quincy, has recently been diagnosed as having Diabetis.
We are working with the Vet on building up to the right insulin dose for her.And we are bringing her weight down from 98lbs.e are at 86 now. She was real fit looking at 80lbs. She's 28in tall. She has been on insulin twice a day since may 2nd. and we are graduly increasing the units given and carefully monitoring the blood sugar.
We are trying to do the best we can for Quincy. We are feeding Science Diet WD as suggested by Vet but we are concerned by the content of corn.
Thanks for any comments
  • Maybe someone that is a member and stranger from an RV forum can offer good advice. That food is full of fillers and does not seem to have a very good reputation.

I think you are doing just fine. If you're concerned about the corn content, talk to the vet again and if not satisfied with his/her answer, get a second opinion from another unassociated vet.

The vet will say the food is the best you can get. I have been told they get a nice kickback for pushing the stuff. I bought a bag my dog ate it but it's expensive and the feeding guidelines are crazy.

Not all vets are slaves to kickbacks (same with doctors). If you fear that your vet is recommending products/services due to kickbacks, then you get a new vet. And that is why I suggested a second opinion - if the OP fears that the vet is wrong about the Science Diet recommendation, then the OP should get a second opinion from a vet (not from a bunch of strangers on an RV forum).
