This One’s Kind’ah Funny

Back story; When I get to the end of a loaf of bread. I’ll throw it out in one particular area, when the boy takes me out for a walk. One morning, I noticed a whole mess of quail waiting along the fence line.

So, I figure I’d start giving them four slices of bread. Thrown in the same spot in the morning, sometime around 06:00 to 06:30, or there about. One morning, about seven or eight of them came ah’running to eat. After which, we proceeded with my walk. While we were on our way back. There was not one, but two Hawks. One sitting on the top of a street lamp post, and the other was flying over head.

As we got closer, the one on the lamp post takes off, passing our resident Falcon’s power line tower. The Falcon, sees the Hawk, then goes for his, or her dive bomb maneuver. Hawk keeps going so the Falcon backs off.

I watched this Falcon fight a Hawk once. Wish I had a video camera, cause it was a great aerial fight. Which lasted for a while.

Since that event, I haven't seen the quail fur a while. However the bread's gone, so I still leave it for the birds.

To the present; This morning the boy couldn't get me up from my nap, so we left a bit late, just past 07:00. Almost forgot the bread, went back in the RV to fetch it. It was a good thing I did, cause while we were heading to the spot.

I saw a quail sitting on the guard rail. As soon as he saw us crossing the street, he jumped off, heading in the other direction. When I got there (now you got to know that I can’t see the spot till I’m on it, due to the guard rail, and our lower elevation). There was around eight or so quail waiting fur their bread.

I’m thinking, the quail on the guard rail was looking fur us, wondering if Calvin furgot their bread. When he saw us coming, he must’ve told the other quail, “Calvin’s here, he didn’t furget”.

That’s bout it. Kind’ah funny, huh?

Now we’s got’s them Mangy Wabbits, and Dang Quails!

Absolutely Calvin, stop at Wally World and get bird seed. It's only Pops money and we both know he can't take it with him...:B

After giving it a thought. I agreed, it would be a good idea. While we're there, I'll pick up a 50 lb. bag of Ol'Roy.

All I heard after that was, ............... silence.

  • Well, guess what? Calvin wants to stop by Walmart, to see how much a bag of bird seed cost. Don't know bout that! ... LOL

  • What a great story, Pops! I never cease to be amazed about the cleverness of both the wild and tame critters in our lives.
  • Aww, very cute! All kinds of critters know a soft touch when they see one, don't they? And calvin is the classic enabler. :B
