Travelling with Cats that like the outdoors

Lots of good suggestions but have to put "around the issue with the slides".
Would be best if you could crate your cat when you bring your slides in or put them out...cats can and do hide everywhere and some pour souls have been crushed.
So please make it a priority that you always know exactly where your cat is when you do the slides...you will possibly save it's life.

Not ever have RV'd with a cat I bought one of these instant pop up screen enclosures for the cat so he could go outside the MH.


Ended up never even opening the package. He had no desire to go outside the MH.

Once parked the cat sleeps all day sun bathing in the window on top of his cat tree stand in the bedroom.

Cats have short attention spans. If one does get out, give him/her some space and they'll forget about you and start exploring. Once they're distracted you can usually walk over and pick them up.

Our cat has traveled with us full time for 5 years. While driving he is crated in the truck. He is never in the rig when the slides move. He has a tag with our cell and our daughters cell (in case we are somewhere with no signal).
We have a sign at the door with his picture that states "kitty inside" with our phone number for emergencies.
He goes out on a harness but only when we are out there. I also never let him actually walk out the door on his own 4 legs. we always carry him, so he doesn't start to think its ok to just walk ouside whenever he wants.

My parents travel with two dogs and a cat. When traveling they are in a crate. When stopped the dogs are inside are in a outside pen. The cat is inside or on a leash and they go for walks with the dogs and cat. Strange to see a cat on a leash but it works for them. Cat going in a out of the RV when home and dad is working on it or loading. So cat is ok the RV and its a safe place.

My sister-in-law travels in her 5th wheel with her outdoor cat. When they park, she keeps him in one of those collapsible wire dog crates. Sets him outside so he can commune with nature. He's not a big fan, but beats the alternate of losing him in the campground.

In a crate while traveling so when you park in the CG and set up your site they don't get out during the process.

I have a pocket door to the bedroom so when friends are over etc the cat is confined to the back of the RV.

IMHO cats that are let outside at home will be a problem when RV'ing.

We've s topped at a LOT of RV parks and seems like MOST of them have some cats that were left behind. Best bet is to keep them inside unless you're with them and they are harnessed. They TEND to not return to the "house" when called and schedules sometimes require moving on.

Get your cats ID Chips.....careful with slides......you might find with an open window, that might be enough for them, most cats get a little more timid in the Motorhome , at least in the beginning...Traveling around the country poses many new threats to a cat....it's nothing like there old FAMILIAR neighborhood..we do not let our cats out, far to many dangers, Fox, Hawks, Etc...Unless your cats are used to leashes....forget about it.......if you really must, get a FULLY ENCLOSED Crate, carry them out, let them get a little air....Never Unattended....the things i pointed out are obvious to those with cats and common sense..
