- otis-agnesExplorerNutro Ultra. We get a free bag after we buy 10. The pups (7 and 2) are doing great on it. Our previous dogs didn't live long and had some health issues, so Otis switched to this brand (I think we were feeding Purina). Agnes

- CA_POPPYExplorerI don't believe dogs are color blind, either. Our Rosie would go nuts if anybody wearing a red or orange shirt walked toward us.
- Carlos___RanaeExplorerWe have 4 furry-friends and have tried numerous brands. Someone said dogs see in grey shades. Not sure about that. Our dogs pick through the food and do not eat anything green, specially peas. We feed them Kibles n' Bits.
- AZPopsExplorerI should ad what brand of food Calvin eats to our list of foods.
Royal Canin Potato and Venison (or PV formula). This food, in combination with a few prescribed medications, vitamins, and a digestive health supplement. Has helped him with his digestive system.
I did try changing his food once, and he went right back to throwing up, once every week to a week and a half.
Pops, Calvin and the mangy Wabbits
PS Wish I was like DOC, and was able to buy this food at wholesale cost. ... :( - toedtoesExplorer III

If Blue Buffalo, Blue Wilderness and or Origen is a terrible choice...I'm all ears!
Often, it's not that these premium options are a "terrible" choice, but that they are simply no better than less expensive options.
If our society, we put an extreme amount of weight on "if it's more expensive, it must be better". In reality, it is often more true to say "if it's really cheap, it's probably not that good". At some point, the added cost does nothing more for the product's quality. But, "it's expensive, so it must be good".
There are many mid-range options that are just as healthy as the high end ones. Which you choose should be based on how well your dog does on it. If your dog doesn't like it, has digestive issues due to it, gains or loses excessive weight, has poor coat and/or teeth due to it, etc., then it doesn't matter how much it costs - it's not a good product for your dog. - CroweExplorerUnfortunately, in many cases, price does reflect quality but I'm open for suggestions for finding a highly rated food at the lowest cost comparatively speaking?
I think the advice below by Dr. Doug is probably the best. Saving money can be a determining factor, but whether you spend more or less may be offset but how your dogs react to it.
Quality = what works in your dog. May be higher price or it may be lower price.
Our bluetick coonhound ate the lowest quality food and was never sick in 13 years. Other than shots, regular physicals and one leg injury he never went to the vet. We had Jesse & Jake on Blue Buffalo but on the advice of two breeders put them on Pro Plan. Ingredients are similar but not exact-less stool, better coats & skin on the Pro Plan. I don't pay attention to who sues who because most of it is just ploys to garner attention. I DO, however, pay attention to class action lawsuits filed by the yous and mes of the world. I also listen to various breeders, vets (mine is also a strong believer in whatever works) and the opinions of people like BCSnob and others on here who have experience in this type of thing. Might not always agree, but it does give me the info I need to make an informed decision.
Our B - BCSnobExplorerExcept many if not most of those sites adhere to the same biases; often parroting each other's views on ingredients.
- MaverickBBDExplorerAcana. All products are obtained within 48 hours of there processing facility in Canada. All there retailers are 'visited' at least once a year and they are easy to located online.
- AcampingwewillgExplorer IIWhile I agree "review" sites can be misleading, if you continually see certain brands at the top of several so called independent lists, it gives one a better understanding of the quality of meats, meat by-products and the overall process involved. Before feeding any new food's to our kids, I always check with our Vet to see if she has an opinion. Once again. lacking the specific expertise to evaluate the "whole process" , what are you left with?
There have been plenty higher priced foods listed in this thread and I'd be willing to bet several are among the top on many lists but please feel free to make recommendation's Dr. Doug....anyone? If Blue Buffalo, Blue Wilderness and or Origen is a terrible choice...I'm all ears!
