What I have learned about cold weather camping . . . . .

. . . . with two GSD's and one wife. :p

We are in Gulf Shores right now, and although the weather has been MUCH better than at home in STL, there are still some "issues" with "cold" weather camping. The last two days have been in the upper 30's to lower 40's, with lots of rain. :E It's gonna be getting a lot better starting today, but what I have learned from the last two days is this:
  1. Two humans and two GSD's create a LOT of humidity in a camper
  2. Cold weather, in combination with single pane windows, can create a LOT of condensation on said windows
  3. You can go through a LOT of paper towels wiping off windows
  4. Wallpaper that is in contact with aluminum window frames that are constantly wet can actually start peeling away from the walls at that point
  5. The most important thing I have learned about cold weather camping with two GSD's and one wife is to GET A DEHUMIDIFIER!!!

  • Last fall instead of the one large bulky dehumidifier i opted for two smaller units. One on the dining table and one in the bedroom. Usually empty them every day. While not as great as the big one, they work well enough to keep humidity levels acceptable
  • Walter I went to Top Sail in FL in January. I found the same thing had 4 Collies and 1 person. Without a dehumidifier you can damage your camper. Even worse was taking 4 Collies for a walk in the rain and bringing 4 wet dogs into a already humid environment.
