I can't imaging life with a dog. No - we were not allowed to have pets growing up because my father didn't like them. My mother had enough with 5 kids. As a young married and mother the thought never crossed my mind, but after we got older, no kids, we co-adopted a rescue dog with my 90 yr old mother-in-law. Within a few days she was ours and we have had 1 or 2 at a time ever since. We do not consider them a bother and both DH and I are glad we are able to share our home and our love with a pet who would otherwise be without a family. I hope you can reach an agreement, but do hope that if she does get a dog you will not be unkind to her or it.
