Weeeel! I have had a number of dogs, good ones and friends, that were run over or disappeared. Mind we live in the country and then on a dead end road that might see one car a day.
Our Daughter brought home a dog about 2000. He was a good watch dog but an aggravation with digging.
Daughter got married in 2010 and he became our dog.
He decided he wanted to come in the home, that fall. He came in looking for approval. I almost let him stay in but didn't. He had a well insulated and warm dog house and the cat stayed with him at night.
When we moved here I could see it might work out. He has been near perfect, never getting on the furniture. I don't know how he got taught that but he does not, of his own accord. he tried to go upstairs a time or two but wife told him no.
He follows me or my wife around everywhere now and all he wants is affection.
I slept on one of the sofas last night because I was hurting and didn't want to keep wife awake.
He came over and nosed my elbow. I rubbed him behind the ears a bit and he licked my hand.
he laid down beside the couch and stayed there all night. When wife came in he was sitting up with his muzzle on my arm.
He came into the bedroom tonight. he wants to sleep there. So it will be. I'll get him a different shaped bed from the big round one in the den and he will sleep at the foot of the bed or beside me if he wants.
Dakota is my/our dog or I'm/we're his person.
He loves us and I do mean love. We love him. Dogs take bringing up and teaching just as do kids. Takes a while to break them from doing some things but once he decides you are his Master and his Friend he will do what you want every time unless he like to teas and play with you, for a bit.
Get a good dog and bring him up right. She and you will have no better friend.
