I noted the supplied with the phone 120-volt charger by Samsung is rated at 700 ma, and not 1 or 2,000 ma. I can't help but wonder why a $400 device has such a limited capacity charger?
Because it came with a ridiculously small 1300 or 1500 mah battery that is lithium ion, and they want it charged slow so that the battery and the charging circuit built into the smart phone circuitry don't get too hot or overheat.
The Galaxy S2, I gave you has/had a larger battery on it, perhaps 2500-2800 mah, that is not original, it is a fat back for more capacity and run time.
Be patient, do not rush these things. Or if you don't like it, buy yourself a Galaxy S4, with a bigger battery, and a faster recharge cycle, like done in an hour to 1:15. It has a white charger, 2300mah rated, I believe.
You have a gift that is part old technology. Accept the gift horse without looking it in the mouth, is what I say. Not a good idea to try tweaks, when your computer is already dead too and you are counting more and more on your smart phone.
Or get someone else to donate you a used ATT Galaxy S3 or the Verizon Galaxy S4, which comes unlocked and will take any brand SIM Card when set in international mode.
Another thing... hold down your home button for 2 or 3 seconds, and shut down all the apps that are running in the backround when you aren't using them, or clear out the memory... that will save battery life too.
Turn down the brightness of the screen, or seek shade for viewing.
Use the battery saver mode.
