All American Direct

For those who have DISH satellite and have been using All American Direct to get your DNS {distant network stations} ABC,NBC,CBS & FOX east and west coast feeds what are you doing now that All American is bowing out?

We have been trying to find a solution that will still allow us to "have our cake and eat it too" without shelling out tooooo much money. We have been getting options from DISH which are not looking good & have been talking to Direct TV-which will involve either a new Winegard roof mounted satellite or parts to turn the DISH into Direct. Hugs, Di
  • We have Dish and haven't used DNS for years. We simply call (or use their chat option on line) to have them change our service address in order to get the locals. We actually like this better than when we did get the east or west coast feeds, because we now always have the area stations with weather, goings on etc.

This may only be an option if your a FTer and don't have another receiver at a sticks and bricks.

Some don't like this option as they either find spending the five minutes to call or resetting pre-set network DVR recording channels too much hassle. However, with the exception of the winter, we are always on the move, but have just not found it much of a deal. Many of our regular set recordings are on other than the networks, and the ones that are network we reset. No biggie.

Di, you hit the road to simplify life and look at all the recent issues. Max Brake, RAM height, and now Dish! What's next? Oh yeah, income tax time again. :S:S:S

Thanks for the Information. Called Direct yesterday and they said I could change to local channels in any area I'm at just by making a phone call and giving the the addres I was at. For no erxtra cost. Today I set my tailgator up called them and had my local channels changed to the Orlando FL area.
  • The problem with changing your service address every time is your have to rebuild your DVR list for the new channels.

    Think you mean DISH...not Direct.

Not if you use the DISH Pass feature to schedule your recordings. Pass finds the shows by name, not channel. Occasionally you will get a few duplicates, but it's not a big issue.

Dish DVR's are based on the top of the line analog ReplayTV DVRs that I use, in fact Dish got sued by Replay (Which by the way is now owned by DriecTV) over that and as happened with Direc and the not nearly as good TiVo,, Both lost (Dish and Direc) This is why you find many of the older Direc DVRs with the TiVo brand. Dish paid the fee.

I have several ways i can schedule a show.. DISH uses most of these as well

ONE: By name, channel, Date and time and Day.. This will record all occurances of say CSI (to use the shortest name I can type) at 11 pm on Tuesday, or on any day of the week or on Tuesday and Thursday (I have a lot of control) or whenever I want

I can also record any and all shows with the exact title CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Occurring any time, any channel, any day (however if it shows up on more than one channel at the same time it picks the lowest one)

The actual "Theme" channel setting I use is "Any show who's title contains the string "CSI" (this includes the original, Miami and New York) any time any day any.. well same as the last.

That way as I move about and the channels change... I simply download the local channel guide to my server computer, Edit and limit according to what comes in good (Say it's on two channels, 7-1 and 62-2.. And 62-2 is stronger, I may delete 7-1 from being served) and the computers do their thing. All automatic. Very nice.. I also can get a report (Dish Can not do this, but the Relays with WiRNS on the server computer can) on shows that will not record due to conflict.

Oh the Relays can operate a VIP-211K.
When that happens... I get to watch one LIVE :)
