I gave up on inkjet printers with their tendency to have the heads clog when not used on a daily basis. I use a HP 200 color inkjet for my in-house color printing and it works flawlessly.
For prints I use a color lab or Costco as both produce a more durable print than an inkjet printer and the cost is much less. I was paying more than $1 a sheet for the inkjet paper alone and for less than that I can get a print done at Costco and pick it up at any store within 2 hours after I upload the files. When traveling I can select the Costco location where I want the prints done so they are ready to pick up when we arrive.
For high quality prints I use White House Custom Color and save money on the prints and get a more stable print and have more options as to the media (paper, metallic, and even prints on metal plate and canvas) and they can do the mounting on large prints which save me money and protects the print until it is framed.
The only time I would consider using a inkjet was to produce prints larger than 11 x 14 in quantity as for an art book that was going to be hand bound. This would be the only time I could save money by doing the printing in house.
