Anybody ever heard of this HD Antenna technology

This device is being pushed on the Woot website. Woot's owned by Amazon as most know. How does it work?

NEVER PAY FOR CABLE AGAIN

  • These antennas are made and marketed to a gullible public that has either forgotten about the basic principles of television antenna design or were too young to have ever used one. Many of the “high-tech” antennas we see sold these days are designed to work with UHF channels only, an important issue if one or more local stations still occupies VHF channels 2-13.
Indoor antennas are only suitable if you live relatively close to the tv station transmitter

there has been over the air tv channels available since tv was invented this is not a new thing they never quit broadcasting when cable or satellite tv came out. they were required by the fcc to change the signal broadcasted to a digital signal in 2009 but they still use the same frequency spectrum assigned to tv broadcasting as they used to though more are broadcasting in the uhf portion of the band now.
the tv does not care if the antenna is called a digital antenna or not it still receives the same frequencies as before digital tv.
if you live in the same city as the tv station transmitters then a indoor antenna may work for you.
a amplified antenna will not help if there is no signal to amplify in the first place.

Actually I stated that wrong; it's not pushed by Woot, it's an advertisement on the Woot website. It's not sold by Woot.

Yeah I've heard of all the OTA antennas out there but was wondering if this was something different.

What's funny is that you can't get to their website without clicking on the map so it can check to see if "you can legally get free TV". This makes me want to run away...

Yes, it is rather funny when you read the entire article.

Pushed by Woot? Woot sells overstocks and discontinued merchandise. When the stock is gone, it's gone. Nothing wrong with most of it persay, I've bought lots of things from there over the years. But just because they are owned by Amazon means zip when it comes to what they sell.

As said, nothing special, just an OTA antennae.

As said, nothing special, just an OTA antennae. There are many of these flat card type antennae on the market. The one we have is by a company called U MUST HAVE. Stupid name, but they sent a second one for free just for putting a review on Amazon. So I got 2 for under $30.
  • Reading reviews on independent websites it looks to be nothing special......at best
  • It's an antenna, it captures OTA television signals. And since cable uses a cable to send it's signal, hence the name "cable", it's going to be tough to catch those signals out of the air.

Here's some reading that helps explain the scam:
