Apple= expensive Chinese junk
What a joke. I work in an environment that is about 60-40 PC to Macs and I see more like a 5000 to 1 issues with PCs.
I would also like to point out that Dell and HP did the same thing. Dell power supplies must be used as they have a "smart" chip inside them and will not charge the battery on their laptops if they are not genuine dell. (and even then, they may not work!).
HP gets around all of it by making unique connectors and using odd voltages. Most laptops use 19 or 24 volts. HP's typically add 16 and 28.
If you are referring to the fact that Apple builds theirs in China, well, take a closer look at all the components in any computer. Except for the ones made in Japan, all were made in China.
Do you know how the cables work to ensure you are using a cable that complies with Apples' specifications?
In the device it measures the signal to noise ratio over the lines. To noisy, it doesn't allow it. It keeps extraneous voltages from damaging the device. The cheap 3rd party chargers create an unclean signal, usually a pulsing 5 volt DC that has 6.2 volt peaks. Again, the device protects itself from these by simply turn it off.
Since the compliant cables from 3rd party venders are typically just a few bucks more than the bad ones, it seems like it is cheap insurance.
