There are a few simple steps to keeping any WIN machine running as new:
1) install antivirus (I use AVG free)
2) buy and install System Mechanic - it monitors and cleans up the junk that accumulates. It makes a huge difference in performance
3) install and periodically run CCleaner (free)
4)install and periodically run Malwarebytes (free)
Last weekend I used machines for a project that were running XP Win7 Win8 and Win10. They all had the above on them and all ran with no problems. Before running the above the person with the WinXP machine waited 10 min for it to boot.
