i'm an IT guy who has been in the business for 23+ years. I started out with Apple II's (ode to Chris! - and that's probably worth a small fortune to collectors since it's working and has 16k language card in it!!!).
At home, I'm a MAC guy. At work, I'm a Winblows guy. They are both identical - with different labels on them.
I do system admin from the command prompt in windows, and unix commands from the command prompt in OS X.
The things that slow down both machines are :
Flash (sucks!)
HP/Adobe Software (Autoupdate chews processors and network bandwidth)
WIndows 7 and up - Microsoft sniffing your underwear to see where you've been
Windows Update - this one we found today was using 1.7GB of RAM on workstations to check for updates under the guise of SVCHOST.EXE (those IT guys will get it).
Anti-Virus software auto updating
THey are all doing the same thing, chewing our processors to report or update.
On my mac, I constantly am killing flash because it's chewing my processors
On my PC, I'm killing flash because it's updating and chewing my processors
the big difference is Malware and virus problems on the PC. Once they are in, you reload the operating system.
if half the software was written today to run on Chris's Apple II, they would be fired for the crappy code they run.
Overall the MAC has less maintenance and less chance of being attacked by hackers through malware for today.
Oh, WIndows 8.x sucks. 7 is rock solid and 10 looks like a keeper. Stay away from 8 though...
